Funny story, so I'd been hearing about this great series and wanted to check it out. I was at an aquarium giftshop and saw a bunch of workbooks. I flipped through them and was disappointed that this series was just workbooks --or so I thought.

This past week at Echoes I was checking out all the great project the kids camp teacher had planned and I see Keepers of the Animals.  Sure enough it's the same series and it's NOT just workbooks. LOL I got to look through this big ole book and it's fantastic.  I think I would really like Keepers of the Earth.

I love on-line resources but it's decieving with book shopping on-line sometimes. <sigh>  I think I need to go to a homeschool conference next year.  Is this the best place to get your hands on homeschooling curriculum books?

Hi Chai Mama,

Have to admit I am trying to wrap my brain around how you could think Keepers was just workbooks lol. The word workbook never even entered my mind when I saw them (perhaps there is a workbook component I have never seen?). Honestly, I have never seen Keepers at a homeschool conference, although I do highly recommend the conference in Washington over the ones in Oregon. Now you are going to *have* to come to Portland for a bookstore day as I bought most, but not all, of my Keepers books at Powells Bookstore. I have to admit that, so far, I have only used the story telling books with my kids. I just haven't made time for the others but I do think we will actually get to it this year since I am much more motivated in this area than ever before. I first heard of this series from either Louise Erdrich's website or a Minnesota Anishinabe website, I forget which now.  I think you'd like them.

Chai Mama and others,

Just to let you know, Catherine Levison is a featured workshop speaker at the WHO Convention in Washington State next June so there will be at least 4 CM workshops that year (this year she had just one workshop, Jesse Wise had 4).  Also, John Taylor Gatto will be the keynote speaker. It ought to be one of their best conferences yet from what one of the organizers told me.  I am really looking forward to it and will be bringing my husband next year. It is usually in midJune in Puyallup. Some friends and I went for the first time this year and we loved it. Even though they do have some activities for kids I really think anyone younger than a teen would get bored by the end of the first day.

Clearly I did not read your description of them on this website. LOL  Yes, Hatfield Marine Science Center has workbooks that look rather dull to me.  (I didn't look at every page tho)... LOL

Yes, I need to get up to Powells especially if they have a nice selection of homeschooling type books.  Did you set a date?  I can really only do this Wed, Thurs, Fri and then I'm out of commission until Fall. Either way.  I could come up by myself and get lost in there.  I might just do this since I'll basically be a single parent and nurse for a while...<sigh>
