Now, I must admit that we've had a copy of Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett sitting on the shelves collecting dust for years. All the kids started it but never got very far as they all said it was hard to follow and/or keep the characters straight. Last week we came across an inexpensive audio version (read by Stephen Briggs) and on impulse I got it. No sooner did we find the cord for the tape player than KodyGirl started listening to it. By the next evening she had listened to the entire book (6 or 7 hours)! Immediately after finishing the audio tape she began the sequel (in book form since that is what we had on the shelf). She enjoyed listening to the audio version so much that she asked me to list it here on the forums. Apparently the key to this book is to listen to it *before* trying to read it. Oh and a smidge of knowledge about Scottish history and culture doesn't hurt. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=wee+free+men&x=0&y=0

Excellent; thanks, Gina! We'll be a while getting there, but this is good to know. Pratchet's a hoot!

My kids and I loved this book. I have a Scottish friend who gave me the low down on all the funny pronunciations, which made it so much fun to read it aloud. Ach! Crivens!
