I've really enjoyed these books. They're a trilogy and the first 2 books are out and the 3rd will come out this fall.  They are definitely for teens or older reading.   It's about a girl in a future 'America' where everything is tightly controlled by 'The Capital' and once a year the capital has 24 kids ages 12-18 come together to fight "The Hunger Games' to the death for the capital's entertainment and to prove it's control over it's citizens.  There is only one person who can win.  Very graphic violence, and they just absorb you into their world -- you really feel like you are coming up for air after reading them.  Despite how horrid they sound they really are outstandingly good!  They would make a great discussion to have about Government power/personal choice/responsibility/has anything like this happened in history, etc.  Highly recommended!

At what age would you recommend them for Tide? She loves that kind of book (when she reads).

Hmmm.... that's a hard one.  She always seems older to me than she really is.  I wouldn't let Dale read them until she's 16+.  I think you should read the first one (set aside a day, because once you get past the first chapter, you seriously will not be able to put it down) and then you can decide if it's too bloody for her or not.  :) The first one is bloodier than the second.  How's that for some elvish advice for you?
