My 11year old doesn't spell.  Part of it is his auditory processing issues, but I can see that his lack of spelling is starting to effect his interactions.  He knows he can't spell, so he doesn't write.   Which means he reads all the posts from his friend, but never responds.  He also can't type which doesn't help.

But I need some advice.  What does CM suggest on spelling?  Is there any programs anyone has used for spelling?

Knowing your son I suspect that the gentle CM approach won't work for him anymore than it, or traditional spelling programs, worked for my Drakon. My kids prefer Megawords which takes a syllabraic approach to spelling. It is somewhat parent intensive but it is worth it since the dictation really does help with some of the auditory issues. You start at book one and move through at your own pace. We've fallen off the Megawords wagon but last year my kids really liked it even though it isn't always easy. We've tried many many ways to teach spelling but this is the only program that I am confident in recommending. I can bring it to the meeting on Sunday if you are attending.

We have struggled with spelling for years, literally.  I've tried CM method, Spelling Workout, old Canadian spelling text, Blue Backed Spelling book, and in desperation Rod and Staff.  Nothing was easy to administer and nothing seemed to help until AVKO Sequential Spelling.

I downloaded two weeks worth of lessons and did the program with all five children at once.  They loved it, (including my eye-rolling 14yod) and I breathed a sigh of relief.

I originally found the website very confusing.  I finally just worked my way through the sample here.  I also found you can use your own paper or print off their blank copy here.  Each list for eight days must be written on a new sheet of paper (so students see the words fresh each time.)  Then my children went back and did the ninth list on the first page.

There are also samples of each of the level at Scribd here.

Just a thought. If he is a visual learner utilizing some copywork in conjunction with his spelling program may work.
