Some of you may have heard of "workboxes" in the recent months. There is a huge variation in how people use these but I think they are great for little ones.

I have a 5 drawer rubbermaid unit for my 5 yr old (we used these when he was 4 too). The top 3 drawers are shallow and the bottom 2 are large and deeper.  I try to change out the activities in it each week so that he's interested and keeps busy with the items when I'm working with the older kids.

I plan on using something like this when my youngest is 2yrs old too.

Things in the drawers

-dot to dot books

-puzzles-he loves puzzles so I include all types and sizes from big floor puzzles to small matching 2 piece sets.

-magnifying glass and I spy books (the magnifier makes it more fun LOL)

-play dough

-peg board

-sequence cards and coordinating counters (get these from scholastic and there are animals, holiday shapes, dinos, bugs, etc)

-paper and markers

-paint with water books

-books based on what we're learning about

-book on CD or tape (I leave the kid tape player on top of his drawers)

-Mr Potato Head

-old magazines and scissors

-large tweezers and small items to place in different size cups

It's also nice because there is a set place for him to put the things away before getting out the next item.

These are just a few ideas but it's worked well for us.

Thought maybe it could work for someone else.

Ann,

That sounds really good! Much better than the pocket-folder or box systems I used when my kids were little.
