i just wanted to share a bit of the conversation I had with my son's cyberschool teacher. This is pertinent to anyone who has the option of enrolling their child in an early college program as a young teen (where I live they can start as young as 14).  The teacher and I were trying to decide whether my son should do his science classes through the cyberschool's regular high school program or their early college option.  Her recommendation is that anyone who is thinking of majoring in science at university should do all, or as many as possible, of their science classes through the early college option.  The reasoning is that most homeschool high school science programs, curricula, etc. is somewht, if not greatly, lacking in the Lab Work that is required for those who want to go on in the field--esp. if the homeschooling parent is not proficient in the sciences themselves. Learners who intend to major in fields that don't require all that Lab Work can go either way and those that are not overly interested in science are probably best doing it as traditional homeschool high schoolers. In a way this is a relief as I now don't have to figure out what my 14 yo is doing for science next year since his writing isn't college level yet so he won't begin the early college option until his Sophomore year, at which point he will begin with science and whatever class the college requires. Just wanted to share incase there are others in our boat ( a kid likely to major in science with a parent incapable of teaching high school level science).
