I'd LOVE to hear how others make time for their own reading.  I've tried various methods over the years; most depending on how needy my kids are and what season it is (I read very little in the spring or fall).  Currently I just keep a book in each one of my "reading spots" and read whenever I can grab the time.  I usually have a novel of some sort in the bathrooms, something more spiritual next to my bed and something that benefits my health or lifestyle next to the recliner in the living room.  What I read is based solely on where I plop my body down lol.

What do you guys do?

I ignore my kids. LOL Let them play and work it out.  I would get a lot more reading done if I would stay off the computer research at night.  My eyes would thank me too.  I usually read one book at a time but I think I will try having books started all over the house. I wonder if it naturally improves memory? I do get frustrated with reading 2 pages and having to stop.  Maybe it's time for a Daddy/Sons day soon. We do have new comfy recliners. A buy one get one free deal for Father's Day.

I've been listening to books on tape.  Then I can listen in the car, while I'm cooking, etc.  I actually find I absorb them more because you are forced not to rush.  Sometime I rush through books and don't really absorb them.    Do  you think that listening to book is different that reading?

I did just finish reading Breakfast with Buddha.  I don't remember the name but I loved it!

We do a lot of day trips on the weekends - often we'll drive 3 hrs one way and home again the same day, so I read in the vehicle.  I read in the tub when I get the chance, after the kids are in bed.  I read on the deck when the kids are playing in the yard.

I park a quarter mile from my office and I read while I walk to my office.  I also try to make time to walk and read at lunchtime if things aren't too busy at work.  If I pick up a book at home, one or another of my guys will decide i am obviously bored and will instantly swing into action to rescue me, but chatting with me until I give up trying to read and find something else to do - -then they immediately wander off, their job done.  ;)  (Alternately, Jack plops in my lap with a book of his and asks em to read to him.)

If I didn't go inot the office, I don't know how I'd get any reading done at all -- my hat is off to you who manage to read at home!

I end up reading at night when the boys have gone to bed. It usually ends up around 9 or 10 PM at night and read till like 11:30 or 12:00.  I dont watch much TV and really like reading at night. It's quiet and I can take notes and "think", always good to do that. lol :)

I also end up reading if I am waiting in the car for an appointment for one of my sons or in a doctors waiting room, dentists things like that.

Eventually I plan to incorporate silent reading time.. for me and the boys where we all read separately for about 1/2 an hour or more and then they can do oral narration with me.. I tried this just the recently and it worked really well.  It was after lunch and we all really enjoyed it and I very much enjoyed the time to sit and read quietly. :)
