Secular Charlotte Mason

"Art is great only in proportion to the greatness of the idea that it expresses; while what we ask of the execution , the technique, is that it shall be adequate to the inspiring idea." p. 262 Parents & Children. 

Again this one hit me as I was reading.  How do you interpret it?

This must be why something one person would consider ugly is beautiful to so many others -- the IDEA behind it.  The feelings the art inspires...

Good point.  It just made me think of my elder daughter who use to draw very inspiring illustrations based on our fairy tale and mythology studies. Now, all she draws is manga and characters based on her favorite computer game.  I can't wait to pull out this quote for her lol.  Her technique is great but her art is definitely lacking inspiration these days.
