Drakon and I have been using this book quite a bit the last few weeks. The full title is From Hearth to Herbalist: An Earth-Conscious Guide to Medicinal Plants by Gregory L. Tilford. I love the excellent photos as they really help me in identifying some of the plants in our immediate area.  I now suspect that I have fireweed (my favorite honey flavor and which is harder to find each year) growing in my yard.  I'll need to check one of those actual plant guide books to be sure but mine looks exactly like the photo in the book and matches the description.  Drakon is really liking how the book is organized as it is easy for him to find the information he is looking for.  I like that it seems to sum up most of the information I've come across in other books, but now I have it in one tidy resource. I usually carry it with me on most of our walks and trips to natural areas.

Oh, excellent find!

Jack and I are just finishing up A Kid's Herb Book by Lesley Tierra, which is excellent, as far as it goes, but ... we're almost done!  I'll check this one out for our next unit!

Thanks!

Hey Misti,

You and Jack may also like Acorn Pancakes, Dandelion Salad and 38 Other Wild Recipes by Jean Craighead George. Wild foods as opposed to herbs but still fascinating and fun. As I read the publishing info it looks like these recipes were pulled from another JCG book titled, The Wild, Wild Cookbook: A Guide for Young Wild-Food Foragers. You can find the book at half.com for pretty cheap.
